Ubuntu 25.10 (“Questing Quokka”) reaches End of Life on 9 July 2026

Utkarsh Gupta of the Ubuntu Release team reminds us that Ubuntu 25.10 was released almost nine months ago, and is thus fast approaching its End of Life. We’re told this happens on 9 July 2026; we are given links that remind us how to upgrade our systems to Ubuntu 26.04.

The Ubuntu Forums Archive

Aaron J Prisk reminds us the Ubuntu Forums operated for two decades, and announces the Ubuntu Forums Archive is now available online. We’re reminded of reasons for the switch from Ubuntu Forums to Ubuntu Discourse (then the Ubuntu Community Hub), and given a link to the archive. Special thanks is also given to Rubi1200, Wild_Man, Frogs_Hair, Bashing-om, Chris Guiver, Irihapeti (Hēni) , and the Ubuntu Communications Council.

Checkbox 7.3.0 stable release

Massimiliano Girardi tells us that a new version of Checkbox (7.3.0) is available in the Stable PPA and as a snap in the stable channel. We’re given details including the automated idle suspend testing, expanded hardware verification, and a list of what’s new in the release & notable bugfixes. A reminder that when we update, any testing session cannot be resumed, with commands useful in upgrading provided.

Tiger Agent: a debugging checklist you could hand to a machine

Andrei Oleinikov expresses the view that most of us learned to debug before we could code well, and explores these trials before leading us to the ‘Tiger Agent’ procedure. We’re introduced to this, a debugging checklist, with this post showing us this sketch and prototype. It ends with us being asked to write down our own ‘debugging ritual’ on paper & compare.

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS for the crafts

Michael DuBelko reminds of the Ubuntu 26.04 LTS release, and suggests that if we publish snaps, charms, rocks, or images, it may be a good time to review the changes and update. We’re told of this process, with aids in helping us migrate our snaps/charms/rocks to a Ubuntu 26.04 base. Information on Snapcraft and Python changes are also covered.

Ubuntu 26.10 is switching to dbus-broker

Alessandro Astone informs us that Ubuntu 26.10 will switch to dbus-broker. We’re reminded what D-Bus is, and given some details of the change in switching out dbus-daemon to dbus-broker. He tells us this will impact both upgraded and new installs. We’re told the why and that we shouldn’t notice any difference, and why its being done now in Ubuntu. If we’re using Ubuntu 26.04 LTS we’re given details how we can try it now, and how to revert back if required.

GNOME Foundation: Announcing Our First Fellows

Allan Day tells us briefly of the GNOME Foundation’s Fellowship funding program, and tells us Peter Eisenmann and Sophie Herold will start as the first Fellows in July. Canonical Experimenting With x86-64-v3 Packages For Ubuntu 26.10

Michael Larabel informs us of Canonical’s experiments with an AMD64v3 archive which should provide “performance benefits for modern Intel and AMD systems”. We’re reminded of prior testing, given some specifics, and told it’s being implemented for Ubuntu 26.10, but can be tested now when using the development branch. Michael tells us he’ll provide us with benchmarks soon.
